It’s the holiday season, and all through the
house, not a person in site, not even a mouse. “Why?”
you may ask; because everyone is out shopping.
This is the season when financial debt is at an all-time
high. Many people go into an emotional shopping spree
for those they love. While the gesture demonstrates
one’s appreciation, admiration and love for
another, this is also a time where many people feel
pressured to buy things they cannot afford, often
increasing their credit card debt. In the midst of
it all, remember that the true meaning of this season
is what you bring to it, not what you buy for it.
This can be a special time simply to be with those
you love.
As you create your shopping list, keep this in mind.
You cannot purchase quality time, nor can you lay
away love. Just the same, you cannot return time that
has passed for a better tomorrow. None of these things
require the use of credit cards or lead to unnecessary
financial burdens. They only require a bit of creative
planning on your part. Aren’t your loved ones
worth it?
If you are exchanging gifts, one idea that comes to
mind can be to have one gift exchange. You can do
this with the whole family, with a loved one, and/or
with a friend. Everyone involved agrees upon a specific
spending limit and only make purchases based on the
agreed amount.
This season, check out what you can do for a loved
one, and yourself, that will make this season a remarkable
and memorable one that demonstrates the true spirit
of this season—one of love and gratefulness.
