This article was inspired by a Keynote address I gave recently to an organization entitled “Celebrating Community Collaboration.” I was inspired by their will and desire to make a difference in the lives of others. I wanted to bring real value and inspiration to the next hour of their lives as they experienced me. I wanted them to know that in their work, they make a difference. I am sharing part of my speech with you this week for the same reason. I want you to know how valuable you are to the Universe and how important it is for you to make a difference every day. This article is pretty loaded. Happy reading. Enjoy!
Could it be that somehow you forgot that you made a difference?
With the hustle and bustle of everyday work life, coupled with the demands and pressures you may experience in your personal life, could you have lost sight of the fact that you still make a difference in the lives of others?
Sure, I know that at the onset of each day, especially Monday, we sometimes work in a vacuum and think that we’re the only ones that experience life the way that we do. If this is you, you might find yourself saying: “Boy, there is just SO MUCH to do.” My mind is consumed with it all, and sometimes “I just can’t think straight.” “Am I overanalyzing this situation again?” “Doggone it!!! Haven’t I been here before?” “There must be an easier way to do this ‘cause I—am—
tired.” And, finally, “You know what? If I get laid off, that’ll be a good thing. I could collect a check for six months, get my mind together and figure out what I want to do.”
Is that really the solution? I asked a client who once who wanted to take off some time to get her ‘head straight’ what she meant. She said she was tired and needed a break. I asked her, “Is that really the route you want to take, or is it your quick-remedy escape?” I say that because, if that’s really what many people may want, then why do we not spend our last two weeks of vacation time planning and pursuing our wants, or maybe the weekends? I know, I know, it’s not enough time, right?!
Could it be that it’s not how much time you have, but rather, how you spend your time that will determine the difference for you?
Could it be that you make a difference right where you are and may not even know it? We must focus in the spirit of excellence in the realm of deadlines and due dates. Only realizing that once items 4, 5 and 6 are checked off finally from our list, they are only met with three more items and demands to add to it.
Whew! It’s exhausting to just think about it. “What is a professional to do?”
How in the world do you get it all done? Are you open to seeking an
improved solution? Because at the end of the day, you are here
to do more than collect a paycheck. You are here to make an impact. You are here because You Make a Difference.”
