| My Daughter’s Keeper, Inc. |
Founded in July 2002, My Daughter’s Keeper, Inc. (MDK) is a 501(c)(3)
non-profit educational and self-development organization based in North Brunswick
(Central New Jersey) which provides state-wide support and resources to mothers/caregivers
and adolescent and teenage daughters to help strengthen individuals, families,
and communities. Through its Educational Development Center (EDC), MDK provides
mentoring, workshops and counseling services. In addition, MDK offers referral
services to connect mothers/caregivers, preteens and teenage girls to other
resources.
MDK has served over 300 mothers and daughters, women and girls since its inception
through programs such as: The ReadwRiters Club is a literacy program for girls
who enjoy reading and writing, which meets each 4th Saturday of the month at
MDK’s EDC. The Sister’s Exchange outreach program has distributed
donated clothing and furniture to over 50 women and their families. The New
Lease On Life program provides life skills and job readiness training for women
on parole.MDK is highly recognized throughout the state of New Jersey and has
gained the respect of the Governor’s office as well as the major state
agencies. MDK has received much attention from New Jersey media highlighting
the successes of its programs and services.
MDK is an educational and self-development non-profit organization, which provides
support and resources to mothers/caregivers and their adolescent and teenage
daughters as well as self-development opportunities for women and girls.
| Community Outreach Programs: |
The “Make a Date with Your Daughter” workshop
series is an edu-tainment community offering presented by My Daughter’s
Keeper, Inc. through partnerships formed with local city/township governments,
middle and high schools, faith-based and community organizations throughout
New Jersey. The workshops are designed to include attendance and participation
from both mothers/caregivers and their daughters ages 10-17. The workshop series
consist of four (4) – two hour interactive sessions featuring role playing,
theatrical skits, problem solving techniques and dinner date packages as incentives
and giveaways.
The Sister's Exchange collects “new” or “almost
new” clothing items that are donated to women and girls. MDK has established
partnerships with the Girls & Boys Town of NJ in Newark and the Good News
Home for Women in Flemington to provide clothing items to the women, teen girls
and families. In addition, MDK has plans to partner with various city/township
municipalites in New Jersey to host a Sister’s Exchange Fair in their
communities to provide donated clothing items to families in their cities/townships.
MDK also accepts and distributes donations of clothing for women, men, boys
and girls.
The ReadwRiters Club is for girls ages 10-17 who love to read
and have a passion for writing. MDK will present the ReadwRiters Club in various
locations throughout New Jersey beginning 2003. Club meetings are scheduled
for the 4th Saturday of each month from 1:00-3:00 p.m.
The M.A.D.E. (Mothers And Daughters Energized) for Healthy Lifestyles!
Workshop & Activity Series is a health education and physical fitness program
which provides an opportunity for mothers and their daughters (ages 8-17) to
spend quality time together while participating in pre-planned monthly fun and
energizing activities and workshops which promote health and fitness. Physical
activities such as skating, kick-boxing, self-defense training, aerobics, African
dance, walkathons and more will encourage and motivate mothers and daughters
to focus on living healthier lifestyles. Health and fitness fairs, motivational
speakers, image consultants and other health and fitness experts are available
to provide one-on-one and group consulting sessions.
"A New Lease On Life" is a program presented in partnership
with the New Jersey State Parole Board which provides personal and professional
development training to women on parole and female ex-offenders. MDK also works
with disadvantaged women who desire to improve their quality of life. A New
Lease on Life program provides women both life and professional skills to help
prepare them to become productive and self-sufficient members of society. The
program focuses on life skills, job skills and placement, parenting, mentoring,
counseling and resource support and connection to housing, substance abuse treatment,
literacy training and education.
"REAL RAP" Sessions for High School Girls Only. Every
1st Friday of Each Month from 6-9pm at MDK's Educational Development Center.

There are currently no membership fees to participate in MDK programs and to
receive services.
